Customs & Import Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
KiwiCigs ships products to selected destinations subject to product availability, shipping restrictions, and applicable laws.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that the products they order can legally be imported into their destination country.
Import Requirements
Tobacco and other regulated products may be subject to specific import restrictions, permits, duties, taxes, and other requirements.
Import rules vary between countries and may also vary depending on the type and quantity of product being imported.
Customers should check the applicable requirements with their local customs or government authority before placing an international order.
New Zealand Imports
For shipments entering New Zealand, tobacco products are subject to specific requirements administered by the New Zealand Customs Service.
Certain tobacco products cannot be imported through ordinary international mail and must instead use an approved import method.
Some tobacco products may also require an import permit.
Where required, permits must be obtained before the goods are imported.
Products imported without the required permit or through a prohibited delivery method may be detained, seized, or destroyed by Customs.
Duties and GST
Imported tobacco products may be subject to Customs duty, GST, excise or other applicable charges, regardless of the value of the shipment.
Any applicable import charges are determined by the relevant customs authority.
Customers are responsible for any duties, taxes, customs charges, clearance fees, storage fees, or other costs that may arise from the importation of their order.
Customs Delays
International shipments may be delayed due to:
- Customs inspections
- Import documentation
- Permit requirements
- Duties or taxes
- Local import restrictions
- Carrier procedures
- Other customs-related circumstances
Customs delays are outside our reasonable control and are not included in our estimated delivery times.
Seized or Destroyed Shipments
If an order is seized, destroyed, refused entry, or otherwise disposed of by customs authorities because the product is prohibited, the required permit was not obtained, the shipping method was not permitted, or the customer failed to comply with applicable import requirements, the order will not automatically qualify for a refund.
Any refund request will be reviewed in accordance with our Refund and Returns Policy and applicable law.
Customer Responsibility
By placing an international order, you acknowledge that:
- You are responsible for checking the import rules applicable to your destination.
- You are responsible for providing accurate customs and delivery information.
- You are responsible for obtaining any required permit or authorisation.
- You are responsible for applicable duties, taxes, and customs charges.
- You must comply with the laws applicable to the importation and possession of the products.
KiwiCigs will not knowingly arrange a shipment where doing so would breach applicable law.
